Meet Dr. Caitlin Stell
Why I do this work
I found my way to this field through a life long curiosity about the human condition—the way we think, feel, form and maintain relationships, and how resilient we can be in the face of adversity. This plus a genuine desire to help others navigate life’s challenges led me to my work as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I believe therapy is one of the most meaningful ways we can support ourselves through life’s complex, messy, and often unexpected experiences.
My Experience
For over a decade, I've worked with children, teens, adults, and parents in a variety of settings and have helped them navigate life’s highs and lows, unexpected shifts, and the overwhelming emotions that can surprise us all. I bring this experience to my private practice where I provide a flexible, compassionate, effective and individualized approach to client care.
What I Help With
The clients I work best with tend to struggle with intense self-criticism and inner judgment, feelings of worthlessness and not being good enough, feelings of depression and anxiety, are grieving recent or long-standing losses, experience relationship issues, or are reflecting on their identity in some way. I specialize in trauma-focused therapy and help individuals who are dealing with the lasting effects of childhood traumas, family-of-origin wounds, and attachment injuries. I also specialize in supporting people at all stages of parenthood from the complexities of pregnancy and postpartum adjustment to the identity shifts that come with parenthood to ever-evolving experience of parenting a child. I aim to provide inclusive, culturally competent, and trauma-informed care and welcome individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+, immigrants, and people of all races, ethnicities, cultures, and religions.
My Approach
My therapy style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in real and honest conversations. I balance empathy and validation while thoughtfully challenging you to support your growth, increase your self-awareness, and free yourself from unhelpful patterns that don't serve your present and future. My goal is to support clients in building practical coping skills while also exploring deeper insight and emotional healing. This combined focus helps clients feel empowered to manage current and future stressors and heal wounds from the past.
I am trained and draw from multiple evidence based modalities to provide my clients with individualized and adaptive treatment that is in alignment with who they are and what they hope to achieve. My perspective as a therapist is rooted in psychodynamic theory and I integrate these modalities to create a comprehensive treatment approach:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Mindfulness, Self-compassion, and somatic practices
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
